Why “Caboose”?
It all started with a dream of opening a local kitchen and tableware shop. I had a clear vision: shiplap walls, calming nautical tones, and a relaxed, beachy atmosphere. I imagined a space that felt like a ship’s kitchen—traditionally called a caboose—where everything has a place and every moment feels considered.
Although the idea of a physical shop was put on pause due to the economic climate, the name stayed. I loved it, and it already felt like part of the identity I was building. So, Caboose Homeware set sail as an online destination instead, with the same peaceful aesthetic and thoughtful approach at its core.
Why I Started Caboose
Home has always been incredibly important to me. I was lucky enough to grow up in a home that felt safe, comforting and full of love—and I wanted to recreate that for my own family.
We’re a big, beautiful blended family of 19 (and counting), with children, stepchildren, grandchildren, and four dogs all woven into the story. Whenever we gather—be it Easter lunch, Christmas dinner, or a summer barbecue—I always make the effort to style the table to suit the season. These are the moments I hope our children and grandchildren will remember: joyful, thoughtful, and filled with love.
After many years working in the charity sector, supporting people through bereavement and family challenges, I found myself at a personal crossroads. A year of loss and emotional strain made me realise I needed a new chapter—one where I could lean into my creative side and build something for my family and future.
With the encouragment of my amazing stepdaughter and her husband who helped build the brand from scratch and the incredible support of my husband, sons and the rest of the family, Caboose was born.
How I Source Our Products
Caboose is about more than just beautiful products—it’s about purpose. I personally source every item by attending homeware exhibitions and carefully choosing suppliers who share our values. A no-plastics ethos guides all our decisions, and wherever possible we prioritise sustainable materials like responsibly sourced wood and fabrics.
Everything you see on our site has been selected to sit harmoniously together—products that feel relaxed, calming, and ready to help you style your own special moments at home.
A Slight Refresh
If you’ve visited us before, you may notice things look a little different around here. That’s because we’ve just given our website a refresh, thanks to the brilliant team at Digi Creative. We wanted to create a smoother, more enjoyable shopping experience that makes it even easier for you to browse our collections, get inspired, and discover new favourites.
We’ve also launched this blog as a new way to connect. From seasonal styling ideas to thoughtful product highlights, we’ll be sharing tips, inspiration, and behind-the-scenes peeks to help you create a home that feels just right.
